Splatter Patterns, 2016

I made this back when my friend Patrick had a little studio space in Lawrence, MA. I remember how the dying light of day used to illuminate that room; the sepia tint and orange filters slowly fading into a cool purple glaze as the evening went on. The shadows from the picture windows casted giant tic tac toe patterns on the floor. We hung canvases on the wall, side by side, and let our wrists do the talking. It’s one of my fondest memories. I had originally wanted to make this the cover of Morning J’s but I struggled with how to layer text over it in a way that made sense to me. Instead it served as inspiration for the cover art you can find today.
